River of Life in Action
River of Life ministers regularly outside the church walls and into our community.
Some of these ways are:
- Living Fire Ministry
- Christ Central Ministry
- Crosland Park Outreach
- Nursing Home Ministry
- River Community Development Corp.
Living Fire started 10 years ago as a puppet ministry for the children of River of Life Church. A group of young people ranging in age from sixth grade to high school came together with a desire to do more for God by ministering to the children.
The ministry was well received and soon found a need to expand the programs being offered. The clown team was formed to compliment the puppet presentations. Today, the team offers sign art (interpretive dance with American Sign Language for the hearing impaired), interpretive dance, drama, and praise and worship.
The team travels in both North and South Carolina and Tennessee ministering in churches, camp grounds, and youth conferences. Each year, the team performs and teaches puppetry and clowning at the Creations creative arts conference in Gatlinburg Tennessee for over 700 young people. As a part of the teaching ministry, we travel to churches and hold workshops to teach puppetry and clowning for beginning teams. Our philosophy is simple. If God opens a door to minister, we walk through it.
River of Life church regularly joins up with Christ Central Ministry and assists them on their Wednesday night outreach. We deliver the message, perform the worship, prepare the meal, teach the children, and in general serve the needy and homeless that Christ Central ministers to on that evening.
The Word of God instructs that the Gospel be presented to the whole world, but that it begins at our own doorstep. Crosland Park is the neighborhood closest to our church. We have a heart for it. We host an annual neighborhood block party, assist with various needs, work with the city with their various projects in Crosland, and in general make our presence known with the love of Christ.
On a regular basis our Care Ministry, led by Cindy and Howard Burgess, lead a team to minister at a local nursing home. Here we have the opportunity to preach the word, extend kindness, and assist those more seasoned than ourselves with the love of Christ.
This is a new initiative for our church. We have formed a non profit community development corporation extension of the church for the purpose of creatively meeting the physical needs in our community. Through this corporation we can assist with housing, job and resource needs with a desire of showing the love of God within our community.
